I've been interested in Natural History and Photography (not necessarily in that order) for about as long as I can remember.

I retired from the police in 1986, having spent the previous 14 years as a police photographer, it was about that time I joined HPS. Nature photography was always a good antidote to police photography (taking pictures depicting beauty rather than gore and mayhem). I usually take slides and use them to give talks to local amenity and history groups.

I currently work for a local tug firm and take all their publicity photographs many of which are displayed in galleries on the web site I created www.carmet.co.uk. The galleries show the firms tugs at work, both at sea and on the Manchester Ship Canal, there is also a gallery showing the firms involvement with the film and TV industry.

I have also created a web site www.barnstonvillage.info about my other interest which is the local history of Barnston, the village where I have always lived.

Having said I would never enter the world of digital photography I have found my Nikon 4300 which my family gave me for my last birthday (62) very useful for copying old photographs and repairing them. I have also used it for digiscoping, which for those of you who don’t know what that is or haven’t tried it, it’s taking pictures with your digital camera through the lens of a telescope or pair of binoculars, the results can be surprisingly good. Certainly for a record shot.

My most successful photograph, as far as competitions are concerned, has to be ‘Tugs at Dawn’ which took first place (slides) in the Mersey River Festival 2003 competition.

Colin has been a member of Heswall for 20 years and gives illustrated talks featuring the history and wildlife of Wirral & further afield. Please see his web site : www.images-of-wirral.talktalk.net
