Each year Heswall Photographic Society holds a number of photographic competitions. These competitions are divided into different classes: monochrome, colour prints, slides and digital. The digital is the biggest growing section. The images are entered by members and are then judged by an external judge - and then are seen no more. This exhibition is an attempt to give such images a wider viewing.
Last year we had five league competitions, the
subjects being: 1. Open (Any Subject) 2. Dusk to Dawn 3. Urban
Landscape 4. Seaside 5. A triptych (three images on a theme)
and three other competitions: nature, people and annual.
The images that are seen in this exhibition are from all competitions. Our rules allow images to be used twice, once in the league and once in the other competitions. Some images in this display were used in this way and I have attempted to indicate this in the titles of the images. Where pictures given awards in the competitions, this is also shown in the titles. Competition 5 (three images on a theme) is displayed here as a single image either horizontally or vertically. Neither of these formats are particulary suitable to display the images to their best advantage, but it is the best that can be done at present.
